Funding has been awarded for a coastal flooding risk survey of the south Galway coastline.
Galway County Council has been successful in its application for funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
The €108,000 funding approved by the OPW will be used to identify at-risk houses and businesses from the coastline of Oranmore to Kinvarra.
The Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme was introduced by the Office of Public Works in 2009.
The purpose of the scheme is to give councils funding to conduct minor projects which will help protect against flooding, and studies to identify at risk areas and potential problems.
Since its inception, 256 funding applications by Galway County Council have been supported under this scheme.
