A motorist was caught driving at almost twice the 50kmh speed limit in Ballinfoyle on Bank Holiday Monday as part of a Garda crackdown on speeding over the weekend.
The driver was going 97kmh on Bóthar na dTreabh (N6) on the outskirts of the city.
Gardaí caught 524 drivers yesterday travelling over the speed limit, including one motorist going 176 kmh in a 120kmh on the M7 in Laois.
An Garda Síochána and GoSafe checked the speed of 98,184 vehicles as part of their operations across the country.
