Star of Derry Girls and Oranmore native Nicola Coughlan has hit out at theatre reviewer Philip Fisher for commenting on her weight in a review of the play she is in.
In a series of Tweets yesterday, Coughlan said: “Hi @BritTheatreGuid, for the second time your reviewer Philip Fisher has come to see a show I’m in, and as part of reviewing the show he has also reviewed my body. How can you continue to support this?
“I was in a show called Jess and Joe Forever @traversetheatre last August which he came to see and his opening sentence was “Jess is a fat girl” My weight has no relevance to either the performance I gave in that or in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.”
She added: “Just so you know @BritTheatreGuid I am so disappointed you let a man like this review for you. Let me state this clearly, he is not welcome to review any show I am in from now till forever. And I plan to be in a lot of damn shows. Peace.”
Fans flocked to support the Galway actress who shot to fame last year in Channel 4’s biggest new comedy for nearly five years.
I genuinely struggle to understand how that is even a prominent characteristic of you physically? You’re not a large person? There’s nothing wrong with being big, but you’re just not?

A review of him getting kicked in the balls may be just as good. Either way your better than these people. 🙂
