People are being warned to be careful of callers claiming to come from the Revenue after fresh reports of scam calls.

The Revenue Commissioners have said that a number of people have received calls that seem to come from someone working in the Revenue.

These scammers are looking for personal or bank information, and try a variety of ruses on people they are calling.

The scam could include telling you that you’re due a tax refund, threatening that you owe taxes immediately to avoid a criminal case, or other stories asking for credit/debit card or bank details for different reasons.

If you receive a telephone call purporting to be from Revenue about which you have any doubts, particularly if the call is unexpected, you should contact your Revenue Office.

Anyone who mistakenly provides personal information in response to these types of fraudulent phone calls should contact their bank or credit card company immediately and alert the Gardaí.
