A walk-in COVID test centre has opened in Ballinasloe today for people who have no symptoms but wish to be tested for the virus.
The test centre will be open for three days at the Town Hall and Library car park and is one of four walk-in hubs opening nationwide today.
Ballinasloe LEA has the highest 14-day COVID incidence rate in Galway with 209 cases per 100,000 people. Fifty-nine cases were confirmed in the LEA in the two weeks to March 29.
In the past two days, a total of seven temporary test centres have opened looking to find asymptomatic infections in the general population.
The other centres opening today are at Naas Racecourse in Kildare, Athlone Regional Sports Centre in Westmeath and Crumlin GAA Clubhouse in Dublin.
The Dublin locations will operate for a week whereas locations outside the capital will be open for five days except Ballinasloe, which will open for just three days.
