Galway still has the highest number of COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit among Ireland’s hospitals.

The latest date from the HSE shows five confirmed cases in the ICU at University Hospital Galway, the most in the country.

Portiuncula Hospital has two confirmed cases, neither of which is in the intensive care unit.

The number of confirmed COVID patients at University Hospital Galway has doubled in the past week, as incidence rates in the city remain well above the national average.

Nationwide there were 171 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland’s hospitals as of 8pm Sunday, of whom 26 are in the ICU.

Both hospitals remain extremely busy aside from the pressure of COVID patients, with high levels of attendance at the Emergency Department.
