Three Local Electoral Areas in Co Galway are among the 50 areas with the highest 14-day Covid-19 incidence rates in the Republic, according to the latest data available on Ireland’s Covid Hub.
On 28 September, Loughrea LEA and Gort-Kinvara LEA had 14-day incidence rates per 100,000 people of 112 and 110.6 respectively, while the average in the Republic was 88.2.
Galway City East also jumped into the top 50 LEAs for Covid-19 in the country, with 94 cases per 100,000 population in the two weeks prior to 28 September.
Other LEAs have been less badly affected – Conamara North had a incidence rate of just 28.1 and Conamara South’s 14-day rate was 46.5, with just 14 confirmed cases across the two electoral areas in 14 days.
Ballinasloe LEA has the lowest 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 in the county at 17.8. Just five cases were confirmed in the area over two weeks.
More recent figures released by the HPSC (up to the 30 September) shows that overall the county had 206 cases in the last two weeks of September, giving the county a 14-day rate of 79.8 cases per 100,000 people.
