Spike in COVID-19 cases at UHG

The number of COVID-19 cases at UHG jumped by six in the latest figures, with the hospital having second highest number of patients in the country.

There were 32 confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway as of Friday night, up from 26 the day before.

The number of COVID patients in the intensive care unit at UHG has also gone up by one to four confirmed cases.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there is just one confirmed case, down from two the previous day, who is not in the ICU.

Nationwide there were 298 people in Ireland hospitalised with COVID-19, of whom 59 are in the intensive care unit.
