The number of COVID-19 patients at University Hospital Galway dropped sharply yesterday, though the amount in the ICU remains high.

As of Monday night there were 13 confirmed cases at UHG, a decrease of almost a third in a single day, down from 19 the previous day.

Of these, five COVID patients in Galway remain in the ICU, the second highest amount in the country after the Mater Hospital, which has six.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there are four confirmed cases, no change from previous days.

None of these patients at Portiuncula Hospital are in the intensive care unit.

Nationwide there were 194 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals as of 8pm Monday, down from more than 200 earlier in the day. There are 34 patients in serious condition in the ICU.

A further 1,522 new cases were reported by the Department of Health on Monday, dropping back down from the two days prior, where daily case numbers came close to 2,000.
