Galway daily news COVID-19 cases more than double at UHG

There has been a steep decline in the number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 in Galway, with 15 fewer cases in hospital.

In the latest figures from the HSE, there were 32 confirmed cases in Galway’s hospitals as of Wednesday evening,

There were 25 patients at University Hospital Galway, and a further seven cases at Portiuncula Hospital.

This is down from 37 cases at UHG and 10 at Portiuncula on Monday evening, the last date for data is available.

Five of the COVID patients at University Hospital Galway are in the intensive care unit, as are two at Portiuncula.

Galway’s recent drop in the number of patients hospitalised comes even as there has been an overall increase in the number of hospital cases nationwide.

The number of COVID patients who have been admitted to the ICU in serious condition has also increased steadily, but alarmingly, in recent days.

There were a total of 470 cases in hospital as of Wednesday night, of whom 101 have been admitted to the intensive care unit.
