There are more than 50 patients with COVID-19 at University Hospital Galway in the latest figures from the HSE.
As of Thursday evening there were 53 confirmed cases at UHG, and another eight at Portiuncula Hospital.
This represents an increase of ten cases at UHG over the past 24 hours, but three fewer cases in Ballinasloe.
Seven of these patients are being treated in the intensive care units, five at UHG and two at Portiuncula, unchanged from the previous day.
Nationwide there were 884 confirmed cases in Irish hospitals as of yesterday evening, of whom 89 are in the ICU.
The Saolta Group announced today that it is postponing outpatient appointments and elective surgeries from next Monday at Galway University Hospitals, due to the pressure of COVID.
Rising cases and staff absences due to the disease mean that staff need to be reallocated to essential emergency care.
