One Galway electoral area sees increase in 14-day Covid rate

Just one Local Electoral Area in Co. Galway has seen an increase in their 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate this week, with the other nine LEAs in the county recording a significant drop in their Covid rates since the start of November.

The latest data released this evening shows that only Gort-Kinvara LEA has a higher 14-day incidence rate this week, with 310.6 cases per 100,000 population, an increase of 140.

In the other nine LEAs though, the rates have decreased and all nine have lower incidence rates than the national average which was 151.5 at the time this latest data was recorded.

Galway City Central LEA now has a 14-day Covid rate of 134.8, down from over 1,000 per 100,000 people just two weeks ago.

The other two LEAs in Galway city now have very similar rates to Galway City Central.

Conamara South recorded the second largest decrease in their Covid-19 rate, down from 346.8 cases per 100,000 last week to just 60.9 this week.

Loughrea has the lowest rate in the county, with 51.7 cases per 100,000, and Conamara North has 52.4 cases per 100,000 population.
