No COVID patients in the ICU at University Hospital Galway

The number of COVID-19 cases at UHG has continued to fall dramatically, but have risen sharply at Portiuncula Hospital.

There were just 28 confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway as of Wednesday evening, down from 41 at the start of the week.

Of the COVID patients at UHG, there are none being treated in the ICU in the latest HSE figures, down from two on Monday, and four a week ago.

At Portiuncula Hospital however, cases have gone up from 5 on Monday afternoon, to 19 as of yesterday evening.

Two of the patients at Portiuncula Hospital are being treated in the intensive care unit, unchanged in recent days.

Nationwide there were just 580 COVID-19 patients hospitalised in Ireland as of Wednesday evening, of whom 64 are in the ICU.
