One Galway electoral area sees huge increase in Covid-19 incidence rate

The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has decreased in three of Galway’s Local Electoral Areas, while the rate has increased in the other seven.

Updated data shows that Loughrea LEA, which had the highest incidence rate in Co. Galway last week, now has one of the lowest at 38.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Gort-Kinvara LEA and Conamara South LEA also saw decreases in their 14-day incidence rates per 100,000 people.

Galway City Central LEA’s 14-day incidence rate however shot up by 146 in the past seven days to 217.2 – and the area now has the highest Covid incidence rate in the county.

Fifty-eight cases were confirmed in Galway City Central LEA in the fourteen days prior to 5 October.

At the other end of the table, Ballinasloe LEA still has the lowest rate in the county, with just 21.3 cases per 100,000 people in the last fortnight.

The data, which is released weekly, shows that the rate for the Republic of Ireland is 116.4 as of 5 October, up from 88.2 last week.
