COVID-19: Sharp decline in cases at UHG

The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 at University Hospital Galway has decreased sharply after rising steadily this week.

There were 31 confirmed case at UHG as of Friday evening according to the latest HSE figures, down from 37 the day before.

However, the number of people hospitalised with the COVID-19 at Portiuncula Hospital has gone up from three to five.

The number of people in serious condition who have been admitted to the ICU remains the same at 10 patients, nine at UHG and one at Portiuncula.

There is also one suspected case in Intensive Care at Portiuncula for whom test results are being awaited.

Nationwide there were 703 people in Ireland hospitalised with COVID-19 as of Friday night, of whom 151 were in the ICU.

There were no deaths among patients in the ICU reported in the 24 hours up to Friday morning.
