A further 1,427 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported by the Department of Health today.

As of 8am this morning there were 164 people in Ireland hospitalised with COVID-19, of whom 26 are in the ICU.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said that Ireland has today passed a “milestone” of 300,000 cases since the pandemic began.

“However, today we have also seen how solidarity continues to be the hallmark of our response with young people across the country lining up to get vaccinated, both to protect themselves and to play their part in protecting the community.”

“I strongly urge anyone eligible for a vaccine to come forward and avail of the opportunity as soon as possible.”

This bank holiday weekend has also seen the opening of walk-in vaccination clinics for people to get their first dose without requiring an appointment.
