COVID-19: Increase in hospital and ICU numbers at UHG

The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 in Galway’s hospitals, and the number of ICU patients, has increased in the latest figures.

The number of confirmed cases in Galway’s hospitals has risen to 143 as of 8pm on Sunday, five more than the previous day.

There are 131 confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway, and another 12 at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.

At UHG there are 10 known COVID-19 patients in Intensive Care, one more than reported yesterday, and two at Portiuncula.

There is one further suspected case in the ICU at Portiuncula Hospital.

Nationwide there were 1,982 cases in Irish hospitals, of whom 193 were in the ICU.

There had been seven deaths related to COVID-19 in the 24 hours prior to this.

Galway had 181 new cases reported yesterday, out of 2,944 nationwide, with 13 new deaths also notified.
