There have been a further 9,006 cases of COVID-19 reported by health officials today.

As of this morning there were 521 people in the country hospitalised with the disease, 60 more than the previous day.

The number of COVID patients being treated in ICUs has gone up by one to 92.

HSE Chief Executive Paul Reid said on RTÉ Morning Ireland that the Omicron variant is “rampant” in the community.

Recent days have seen as much as 50 percent of all tests coming back with positive results.

People have also reported difficulty with booking a test in the first place due to incredibly high demand.
