There were more confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Galway yesterday alone than in the entire first six months of the pandemic.
There were 604 new cases of COVID-19 notified in Galway on Tuesday. In contrast, it was not until September 19 of 2020 that the cumulative total of cases in Galway reached 607.
Galway had the highest number of daily cases in the country yesterday, passing even Dublin, which had 574.
This is also almost three times higher than the next highest level of daily cases seen here, which was set just the day beforehand with 225.
There have been 2,668 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Galway in the past two weeks.
The 14-day incidence rate here has also shot up to 1,033 cases per 100,000 people.
