There are 37 people in Galway being treated in hospital for COVID-19 in the latest HSE figures.
While the number of cases at UHG has remained level at 25 in recent days, Portiuncula Hospital has seen a slow but steady increase.
There were 12 confirmed cases at the Ballinasloe hospital as of 8pm on Saturday night.
Three new cases had been admitted to Portiuncula in the 24 hours prior, more than the two new cases at UHG.
There were also 10 suspected cases at Portiuncula Hospital for which test results were awaited, the second highest of any hospital in the country.
But despite this increase, the number of COVID patients in serious condition admitted to the ICU remains low.
There was just one COVID patient in the intensive care unit at Portiuncula as of Saturday night, with two more in the ICU in Galway.
Nationwide there were 557 people in the country hospitalised with COVID-19
