The Department of Health has reported 461 new cases of COVID-19 and five further deaths related to the virus, all of which occurred in April.

75% of new the new cases are under 45 years of age and the median age is 28 years old.

A total of 162 people with COVID-19 are receiving treatment in hospitals across the State – the lowest figure since last October. Of those, 46 are in ICU.

The number of people hospitalised with the disease at University Hospital Galway has continued to increase slowly but steadily in recent days.

There were nine confirmed case at UHG as of Friday evening, up from six at the start of the week.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe five people were being treated for COVID-19, down from a mid-week peak of seven cases, but still above the start of the week.
