Galway Daily news 25 percent drop in COVID cases in Galway hospitals

A further 1,828 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported by the Department of Health today, as daily numbers continue to climb.

As of 8am this morning there are 198 people in Ireland who have been hospitalised with COVID-19.

The number of hospitalised patients in serious condition has also continued to climb, with 33 admitted to the ICU nationwide.

Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan strongly encouraged people who have yet to receive the vaccine to attend the walk-in clinics open this weekend.

In the past two weeks there have been more than 18,000 new cases in Ireland, and Dr Ronan Glynn said that uncertainty remains about underlying trends driving the numbers.

The 14-day incidence rate is now the highest it has been since the start of February, and just 3% of cases are among people aged 65 and over.
