There have been eight further deaths related to COVID-19 reported by the Department of Health today, along with 6,888 new confirmed cases.
Of the cases notified today, 140 are in Galway, significantly lower than recent days which have seen more than 180 on multiple occasions, and two days where the daily cases passed 200.
The 14-day incidence rate of the virus in Galway is now 735.5 cases per 100,000 people. This is still significantly below the overall national rate of 1291.2.
There have now been a total of 147,613 confirmed cases in Ireland, and the disease has claimed 2,344 lives.
Two previously confirmed cases have been denotified following validation of data by the HPSC.
As of 2pm today, 1,452 COVID-19 patients in Ireland are hospitalised, of whom 125 are in ICU. There have been 100 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
Of the cases notified today:
- 3,252 are men and 3,595 are women
- 60% are under 45 years of age
- the median age is 38 years old
- 2,088 in Dublin, 862 in Cork, 469 in Limerick, 405 in Wexford, 320 in Waterford and the remaining 2,744 cases are spread across all other counties
