Health officials have confirmed there have been an additional 390 cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, but no further deaths have been reported.
This increase takes the total number of cases in the State to 35,377, while there have been 1,802 Covid related deaths.
Twenty-one of the new COVID-19 cases are in Galway, and over half of the additional cases are in Dublin.
Of the new cases, 66% are under 45 years of age. 36% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case.
Speaking this evening, Dr Ronan Glynn asked everyone, but particularly those living and working in Galway, Cork, Monaghan and Roscommon, to adhere to the public health advice.
“There is still time to get the virus back under control in these areas, break the chains of transmission and stop the spread of this highly infectious disease in these communities,” he said.
Loughrea LEA has the highest 14 day incidence of the coronavirus in County Galway, while Conamara North and South LEAs have both had fewer than five cases in the past 14 days.
There are currently 111 with the disease in Irish hospitals – 16 of whom are in ICU.
“We know the key actions to take to stay safe, by keeping a 2 metre distance, reducing your social contacts, wearing a face mask, covering coughs and sneezes and staying at home and contacting your GP if you start to feel unwell, you are doing everything you can to take care of yourself and those around you,” added Dr Glynn.
