Galway hospitals saw a further 16 people admitted with Covid-19 yesterday taking the total number of people with the disease hospitalised in the county to 119.
University Hospital Galway saw an additional 13 Covid patients pass through its doors before 8pm yesterday evening, while Portiuncua had three more Covid patients by the end of the day.
There are now 113 people with the disease at UHG where there are 13 beds available and one ICU bed, and at Portiunucula Hospital, which had just one general bed available at 8pm yesterday, there are nine people with Covid.
Ten Covid patients at UHG are in intensive care, while one of the nine people with the illness at Portiuncula is in ICU. One suspected case is also in critical care in Ballinasloe.
The number Covid cases in ICU across the country continues to rise, with 158 people receiving critical care at 8am this morning. A total of 1,700 cases are in hospitals across the state.
A record 225 new cases was reported in Galway by the Department of Health yesterday, with health officials reporting a further eight deaths during the third wave.
