A Tipperary couple raised €14,510 to the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund at UHG out of gratitude for the incredible care they received at the hospital.
Mr Patrick Cahalan and his wife Caroline from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary recently presented a cheque to UHG staff from the cancer services and radiotherapy departments.
Mr Cahalan thanked staff who made an impact on his life and said, “When I was treated in the hospital in 2015 it was a real eye-opener as I had no idea what went on.”
“I was so well looked after that I felt I had to give something back to the wonderful doctors and nurses in UHG.”
The Calahans raised the money by carrying out a sponsored climb of Carrauntoohil with family and friends.
Stephen Coyne, Radiotherapy Service Manager at UHG, expressed his gratitude to the Cahalan family.
“We would like to sincerely thank Patrick, his wife Caroline and also their friends and family for the time and effort they put in to raise such a substantial sum of money for the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund.”
“In the past the Patient Comfort Fund has been used to buy TVs for the clinical rooms and comfortable chairs for the waiting areas.”
“These sound like small changes but they are significant for the patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer. This donation will help us do even more to improve the patients’ journey.”
