Galway County Council intends to seek funding for road safety improvements in Gort for the coming year.

Councillor Joe Byrne said that after much discussion and representation to the council, it has been decided to carry out works on the junction of of George’s Street and Loughrea Road in Gort to improve road safety.

The council will be seeking funding in 2020 to install traffic signal controls, a pedestrian crossing and road markings at the junction.

It is estimated that the total cost of these works will be somewhere in the region of €50,000.
