Galway Daily news Council submits plans for Claregalway housing project

Galway County Council is seeking planning approval for a social and affordable housing development in Claregalway.

The council has submitted a planning application to An Bord Pleanála for 88 houses and apartments in the townland of Droim na Gaoithe, Claregalway.

The 2.7ha site is located on the south side of the town, next to the existing Cúirt na hAbhann estate on the R381 road.

The estate is to be split roughly half and half between social and affordable housing, with 43 social homes and 45 affordable homes.

In terms of houses to be provided, there will be 2 four-bedroom, 19 three-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom homes.

The apartments in the estate will comprise 15 three-bedroom, 22 two-bedroom, and 13 one-bedroom units distributed among the 15 apartment buildings.

All of the proposed houses will be two storeys tall, while the apartment buildings will range from 2½ to 3 storeys in height.

The estate would have two main exits, one onto the R381 road to Oranmore, and the other onto Lakeview Road.

A decision on this planning application is due from An Bord Pleanála by next February.
