Galway Daily news Green light for council to knock and replace Ahascragh housing

Galway County Council has received planning approval to almost completely rebuild a council housing scheme in Ahascragh.

The council has received the green light from An Bord Pleanala to demolish and replace a large portion of the Bridge Court housing estate.

Ten houses in the existing scheme will be knocked down to make way for 12 more while six other houses are to be renovated.

This will result in a net gain of two homes at Bridge Court, but without seeing any increase in the number of bed spaces therein.

The reconstruction/renovation of the estate is needed due to the poor structural condition and appearance of the houses.

Approval was given by An Bord Pleanála with eight conditions attached. Any parking spaces indicated in the plans must be fitted with electrical connections, to allow for electric vehicle charging points in the future.

Any open spaces outlined in the plans submitted to the board must be reserved for that function, and landscaped within six months of the houses being occupied.
