One lucky Galway man could hardly believe it when he took home a €30,000 prize after winning big on an All Cash Tripler scratch card.

The fortunate player put down €3 on a scratch card in Tesco at the Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road, making this quite a hefty return on his investment.

The lucky winner had to take a double take when he initially revealed the top prize: “I buy a scratch card maybe once a week but I have never won anything like this before. I bought the ticket in Tesco and then scratched the ticket in the car.

“You can imagine my shock – I couldn’t make head or tails of it at first since I never expected to see €30,000. It wasn’t until I called the National Lottery that I really believed it,” he said.

The top prize winner plans to look after his family with his recent windfall: “I think my family have already decided how the money will be spent.”

“I’ll have to have a chat at home and then we can make a plan for what to do when life gets back to normal. We’re just all delighted – it’s been a lovely surprise.”

Saturday night’s Lotto jackpot is rolling towards an estimated €12 million making it a record amount for 2021.

The last Lotto jackpot to be won was in January when an online Limerick player won €8,530,884.

Ahead of the Saturday night Lotto draw, the National Lottery are encouraging players to buy their tickets early and to avoid queues in shop where possible.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage, and the Irish Language.

In total more than €5.8 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 33 years ago. In 2020 alone, €254 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
