The number of people in Galway diagnosed with COVID-19 has risen to 169 in the latest figures, an increase of nine cases.

Other counties in the west have similar figures – Mayo has just one fewer case than Galway (168), while in Donegal there are currently two fewer cases (167).

Nationally, thirty-three more people have died after being diagnosed with the disease, with three of these deaths located in the West.

The remaining 30 COVID-19 related deaths were in the east.

The total number of people who have tested positive for the virus in the Republic is now 8,928, it has been confirmed.

This is an increase of 839 today, but this figure includes 286 older swab results returned from Germany as well as 553 new cases.

This is the highest number of deaths and new cases recorded so far in the Republic.

The total number of people to have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Republic is 320.
