There’s been an outpouring of sympathy and regret at a long established staple of Galway closing down, as Collerans butchers shuts its doors.
The family run business, which has been open since 1935, announced this week that they were shutting down with immediate effect.
In a statement from the butchers from social media, they said that plans to get a new owner for the business didn’t work out.
“As a lot of our customers were award; we were working through a change of ownership. The change of ownership did not happen due to a lack of agreement within the shareholders.”
Collerans said that they were “heartbroken” not to have been able to stay open, and thanked everyone they’ve had good times with.
“Thank you to all of our loyal customers who we have loved serving throughout the years, and of course, for always having the craic with us.”
There was an outpouring on social media at the news, with many expressing heartbreak at the loss of such a long established and beloved business.
