Middle Street in Galway city centre is closing for four days from Monday to allow roadworks to take place.

The city council has ordered the street closed to traffic from 7am on Monday, June 17 to 7pm on Thursday, June 20 while Irish Water carries out roadworks.

Irish Water is carrying out sewer rehabilitation works that involves replacing sections of collapsed sewer that are causing blockages.

This is part of a larger upgrade of the city sewer network now underway.

Middle Street will be closed along its length from the junction with Cross Street Lower to the Abbeygate Street Upper junction.

Local access will be maintained on the first half of the street up to St Augustine’s church for residents and deliveries.

During the works the direction of traffic on St. Augustine Street will be reversed.

Alternate routes will be signposted by the city council while work is underway.
