The festive season is off to a dashing start for a Gort shopper who beat 166 other shoppers across Ireland to win this year’s Lidl Trolley Dash competition.
In a frantic rush around the Lidl store in Gort, Enda Scanlon from Tubber was able to grab more than €365 worth of Christmas shopping from the shelves.
Each of the 167 participants had just two minutes to collect as many goodies as possible in their trolleys in the Supermarket Sweep style contest.
From 16 to 29 November, Trolley Dash tickets were sold for €1 in Lidl stores across the country, raising a total of €310,000 for Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health. Over €13,500 was raised in Co. Galway alone this year.
With fundraisets compromised this year due to the pandemic, money raised from initiatives such as the trolley dash are paramount to charities and their service users.
Since its creation in 2006, Jigsaw has directly supported over 38,000 young people and offered supports to over 250,000 in schools, communities, workplaces, clubs and more across Ireland.
