Plans to establish a Tourism Recovery Taskforce should include rural representation, an East Galway TD has said.
Minister Ciaran Cannon welcomed the plans to establish the Taskforce, and said that having people from regions like East Galway would ensure that the tourism sector in the Hidden Heartlands can receive targeted supports.
The taskforce will aim to help revive the fortunes of the tourism sector during these challenging times.
Commenting on the plans, Minister Cannon said: “Certainly, the short-term for the sector looks bleak and we must think first and foremost of those whose jobs have depended on the sector, in a variety of roles.
“I will be advocating for representation on the Taskforce from within regions like our own to ensure that the tourism sector in the Hidden Heartlands can receive targeted supports and we cannot forget that Galway also contains an important section of the Wild Atlantic Way which is crucial to the economic future of places like Kinvara and Gort.
“With representation on this Taskforce from within, we can convey accurately the experience on the ground and the views of those most affected.”
