Calls have been made for the city council to provide new public toilets at amenities and areas which have seen a spike in usage during the pandemic.

City Councillor Alan Cheevers said that many residents have raised the issue with him of providing public toilets at Merlin Woods and Merlin Allotments in recent months.

“The amount of people in the community using these amenities has substantially increased since the start of the pandemic, and I believe will continue to do so.”

He added that there is a demand for more public toilets at locations throughout the city, including the city centre.

“I think we also need work [to] start soon on the new toilets and changing facilities at Ballyloughane beach,” Alan Cheevers said.

“Money has already been allocated for them in this year’s budget, and a time frame needs to be established when we will see a start and finish of these facilities once restrictions lift.”
