A Boil Water Notice has been issued for people living in Eyrecourt supplied by the Ballinasloe Public Water Supply today.
The notice, which covers approximately 350 homes, has been issued due to the low levels of chlorine detected in this part of the supply network.
Ronan Daly of Irish Water said “We will continue to work closely with Galway County Council and the HSE to monitor the supply and lift the notice as quickly as it is safe to do so and safeguard the supply for the future.”
“Public health is Irish Water’s number one priority and this Boil Water Notice has been put in place as a precaution to protect customers.”
Water must be boiled for drinking, drinks made with water, preparation of food not cooked prior to eating, brushing teeth, or making ice.
However, the water supply is still suitable for hygiene purposes, such as showering and hand-washing.
Approximately 2,800 homes in the Gort area are also still under a Boil Water Notice issued more than three weeks ago.
Replacement equipment is being awaited before repairs can take place at the water treatment plant there.
