A boil water notice issued to some residents of Loughrea last week has been lifted.

Irish Water sent the boil water notice to residents of Barrack street on November 9 after E.coli was found in the the water supply.

The notice covered water customers living on both sides of the street from Lake Road to The Green.

After working with Galway County Council for the past week to resolve the issue, further testing has turned up no presence of e.coli in the water.

The affected area is supplied from the Loughrea-Knockanima Public Water Supply.

Commenting on the lifting of the notice Tim O’Connor, Irish Water Lead, said, “Public health is our number one priority we would like to apologise  for the inconvenience caused by the imposition of the boil water notice.

“We thank Galway County Council and the HSE for their assistance in working to lift the notice as quickly as possible.”
