A meeting of the Galway Beef Plan Movement at Turloughmore GAA Club on Wednesday evening ended in a standoff over election candidates.

The Beef Plan Movement held its AGM yesterday, which was supposed to include the election of officers. But the meeting broke for the evening without the election taking place.

It was called of after a standoff over the eligibility of candidates for the positions of chairman threw the meeting into turmoil

Toward the end of the evening Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte attempted to bring some order to the meeting, saying that a fair and democratic vote should be allowed to take place.

The Fianna Fáil TD allegedly said that the conduct of the meeting was making Galway the laughingstock of the country.

The AGM took place ahead of the first meeting of the Beef Market Taskforce in 2020 which is taking place at the Agriculture House in Dublin today.
