Three schools in Galway East have been given the go ahead for emergency repair works and temporary accommodation works.

The Department of Education has approved work on two schools in Gort and one in Athenry according to Galway East TD Sean Canney.

Gaelscoil Riada in Athenry will be adding three temporary classrooms and funding has been provided for roof works on both Gort National School and Gort Community School.

“I am delighted that these approvals have been given,” Independent TD Sean Canney said.

“The additional classrooms at Gaelscoil Riada are a temporary measure until the primary and secondary Gaescoils are in a position to combine on the existing site of Clarin College, while the emergency works for Gort National School and Gort Community School are urgently needed.”

Deputy Canney added his congratulations to the parents and staff at the three schools who pushed for these works, and thanked the Department of Education for approving them.
