An ammunition cache was seized and a ‘suspect device’ made safe by army ordnance disposal experts after a search by Gardaí in south Galway.
The ammunition and suspect device were found by Gardaí from Gort and Loughrea at Castledaly on Tuesday in an intelligence led operation.
A search in the woods off the Gort to Loughrea road at Castledaly uncovered two boxes of ammo, and a suspect device contained in a pipe.
The device was made safe by members of the Army Ordnance Disposal Unit.
The operation took place at approximately 2pm yesterday in woodlands around 5km off the main road.
The scene of the search has been has been sealed today, and a technical examination of the items seized will take place.
