All five seats are expected to be filled in the Midlands North West constituency by tonight as counting resumes this morning in Castlebar.
No candidate has reached the quota after 16 counts, but Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan, Barry Cowen (FF), and Nina Carberry and Maria Walsh (FG) are expected to take the first four seats.
The fifth seat, between Sinn Féin’s Michelle Gildernew and Independent Ireland candidate Ciaran Mullooly, could be a tight race.
The final seat will depend on the number of transfers Michelle Gildernew receives from her running mate Chris McManus when he is eliminated later today.
Mullooly is currently 18,000 votes ahead of Gildernew as voting recommences in Castlebar.
