More than 11,000 Farmers in Galway are this week receiving €20 million in payments under the Areas of Natural Constraint scheme.
Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue announced this week that €185 million in payments have been issued to 85,000 farmers.
“The importance of the timely delivery of payments under the ANC scheme is vital for the survival of the farm families,” said Galway TD Seán Canney, welcoming the announcement.
In total 11,825 farmers in Galway are receiving €20.6 million in the first tranche payments from the scheme, which will arrive bank accounts in the coming days.
Minister McConalogue emphasised that the ANC scheme is crucial for farm families, and that he was keen to issue payments as early as possible.
“These payments represent a timely and significant financial boost for farmers and for the wider rural economy. The issuing of these payments in mid-September ensures payments to farmers at the earliest possible time.”
The Minister also confirmed that work is underway to ensure that 70% of the Basic Payment Scheme is delivered by October 18.
