UHG is the second most overcrowded hospital in Ireland this morning with 50 patients without a bed according to the INMO.
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that UHG is tied with University Hospital Limerick for trolleys today.
The INMO’S daily Trolley/Ward Watch shows that there are a total of 521 patients waiting for a bed at public hospitals today.
The worst affected hospital is Cork UH with 56 on trolleys, followed by UHG/UHL (50), and South Tipperary General Hospital (34).
Back in Galway there are a further four people without a bed at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
The new year has seen Ireland’s overcrowding crisis reach record new levels.
This is the sixth day in a row in which University Hospital Galway has been in the top three most overcrowded hospitals nationwide.
