Chess enthusiasts can claim prestige and pick up not inconsiderable prizes at the 2019 Galway Chess Congress this month.
The Galway Chess Club is organising the competition at the Menlo Park Hotel on March 22-24.
Players can compete at either the Masters, Majors, or Minors level based on their Irish Chess Union
First place will win €500 in the Masters level, €300 in the Majors, and €150 in the Minors level.
Second prize is €250, €150, and €100 in each level respectively, and those who come in third will take home €150, €100, or €50.
There are also Grading Prizes up for grabs worth €250 in each skill level for competitors.
No player will be allowed to take home more than one prize.
The Congress is one of four main weekender competitions taking place in Ireland.
It is returning to Galway this year after taking a hiatus in 2018.
