Primary School teacher Sarah McDermott was the winner of the highly sought after Friday’s Most Stylish prize at the Galway Races this year.
The 2022 Galway Races Summer Festival came to a close yesterday, after a week of racing partying, and sharp outfits as crowds returned to Ballybrit Racecourse.
Last Thursday saw the crowning of the Best Dressed winners at Ladies Day of the Galway Races, sponsored by the Connacht Hospitality Group.
But that wasn’t the only fashion event of the week, as it was followed by the Friday’s Most Stylish prize sponsored by Athlone Towncentre the next day.
Wearing a patterned playsuit & blazer co-ord by Kevin Jon from Harper Boutique in Galway, Sarah elevated her look with shoes from Carvela and a Prada handbag which she borrowed from a friend.
She completed her race going outfit with a navy headpiece designed and made by Australian Milliner Rebecca Share which she hired from Hats Amore, Newbridge.
One of the key reasons Sarah was chosen was due to the way she created a wholly individual look incorporating pieces from high street stores and independent boutiques.
Speaking after her win on Friday, Sarah said that she was absolutely thrilled, and that she and her friends had a great day at the races.
“While I had today’s outfit ready to go I can’t believe I was considering not coming to the racecourse as I was a little tired following all of yesterday’s fun.”
“I’m now just delighted I made the decision to! This has topped off an incredible week for me personally.”
The Kildare women won a bevy of prizes worth a total of €3,500, the biggest prize pot of the Friday event to date.
Among these are a €2000 Athlone Towncentre Gift Card, a luxury two night break in the four star Sheraton Athlone Hotel in a Deluxe Tower Room, with dinner & spa treatments, and a gift card for a piece of her choice from Fields The Jewellers.
‘Friday’s Most Stylish’ has proven to be one of the biggest gatherings of race going fashion lovers to date on the Friday of the Festival.
Celebrity judges Bláthnaid Treacy, RTÉ Television Presenter and Marietta Doran, Fashion Stylist & Racing Style Presenter were joined by Shirley Delahunt, Manager of Athlone Towncentre.
This topped off an exciting week for Sarah, coming just a few days after she got engaged to now fiancé Eoin Stakelum.
Sarah said that she’s looking forward to using the voucher to get some pieces for their wedding, and maybe outfits for future race meets.
