All school students and adults in Galway city are being challenged to make decorations that bring the Christmas season to life out of whatever they can find.

Galway city council is inviting people to take part in the Christmas Decoration Competition 2018 and create their own homemade decorations.

The only caveat is that the decorations must be made out of recycled materials.

Make something magical out of something old and doomed for the bin; newspapers, cardboard, plastic bottles, old clothes, or anything that’s just lying around unused.

Entrants can submit a maximum of two decorations each for judging.

A winner will be chosen from three categories, one from Primary School, one from Secondary School, and one Adult.

Each winner will receive €50 in vouchers, and the winning entries will hang on the Christmas tree at Galway City Hall.

The closing day for entries to be accepted is 4pm on Monday, December 3.

The entry form for anyone who wants to take part can be found on the city council website here.
