Our opening round of the 2018 Galway Daily Camogie All-Stars saw the 68 nominees whittled down to 51 ahead of today’s (Tuesday) semi-finals.

All 14 Galway contenders qualified and will take their place in the field – Sarah Healy, Sarah Dervan, Heather Cooney, Tara Kenny, Shauna Healy, Roisin Black, Lorraine Ryan, Niamh McGrath, Ailish O’Reilly, Niamh Kilkenny, Caitriona Cormican, Aoife Donohue, Carrie Dolan, Niamh Hanniffy.

Galway and All-Ireland champions Cork have 14 remaining, followed by Kilkenny (12), Waterford (3), Tipperary (2) while Clare, Down, Dublin, Kerry, Limerick and Offaly have one player each left.  Meath, Roscommon and Wexford lost their representatives.

Adjudicators had to make the following two decisions:

In the Goalkeepers section – they opted to keep Kilkenny’s Emma Kavanagh in the competition ahead of Tipperary’s Caoimhe Bourke.

In Group 2 of the Midfielders section – they opted to keep Kerry’s Laura Collins in the competition ahead of Dublin’s Sinead Wylde.

Those unlucky to be eliminated included Patrice Diggin (Kerry), Shauna Fallon (Roscommon), Saoirse McCarthy (Cork) and Emma O’Byrne (Dublin).

The semi-finals will see 15 groups across the four categories.  Nine will contain three players (one goalkeeper, two midfielders, six attackers).  There will be four players in the six defender groups.  The top two from each advance to Wednesday’s finals.  All players are seeded based on quarter-final results.

So, join us in deciding our team of the year and we’ll update latest scores/results each day.  All ties will be decided by our adjudication committee and we look forward to seeing what 15 players make the final cut on Thursday (4th October).
