Have you ever been told that you’re funny? Or else that women just aren’t funny?

Well if you’re an aspiring female comic who wants to try out some material for the first time, or just get some more experience, then comedy collective Funny Women say it’s the ‘Time of the Month’ to come and find out.

Funny women are holding two great events at the Black Gate Cultural on Thursday evening for female comics.

In 2002 founder Lynne Parker set up Funny Women because a booking agent told her that there aren’t many female comics because, “women just aren’t funny”.

So she created the travelling show ‘Time of the Month’ to prove him and help aspiring female comedians find their chops.

At Playtime, starting at 6.30pm, you can meet other women with a passion for comedy, learn how to create material through improv, work on your scripts, and just share some good craic with other comics.

Then, at 8pm, it’s Showtime as women are invited to get on the stage and try their hand in front of a live audience for the first time.

Witness the genesis of a new generation of comedians here in Galway, and some old hands at the comedy circuit looking to try new material in front of a good crowd.

Tickets for Playtime cost €10 and get you into the Showtime performances afterwards. If you’re just looking to listen to some good comedy, tickets for Showtime are €6.

You can buy tickets for either online up until 6pm on Thursday.
