Two related men who stole money from a church poor box received sentences at Galway District Court recently.
Kevin Goldbey (36) and Kenneth Goldbey (38), both of Gaelcarraig Park in Westside, admitted to stealing from St Nicholas Church in Galway City, after originally pleading not guilty.
The incident involved €103.25 in cash stolen from the church poor box on January 1 of 2020.
The court heard that compensation for the theft was paid by the two men last October, and it was put back for a probation report on the two men.
Of Kevin Goldbey, Judge John King said that he was the “main instigator”, and came prepared with an implement for the theft.
The court heard that since this time he has been on a training course, and is getting his forklift licence.
The judge imposed a five month prison sentence, and suspended it for two years.
Kenneth Goldbey was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.
